Tykarpsgrottan, czyli kopalnia wapnia /Limestone mine

Lasy, łąki, jeziora… wszystko pięknie, ale co robić z dziećmi kiedy pogoda nie dopisuje? A muzea i sale zabaw są zamknięte? Możemy np pojechać do jaskini albo kopalni! Najbliższa z Malmö jaskinia, a właściwie stara kopalnia wapnia, to Tykarpsgrottan, która leży w okolicy Hässleholm, trochę ponad godzinę drogi z Malmö.

Jaskinia jest głęboka na 12 m i ma powierzchnie 20 000 m² . Wapń wydobywano w niej od połowy XVIII wieku do roku 1888. Obecnie jest udostępniona do zwiedzania (ale tylko z przewodnikiem), odbywają się w niej różne wydarzenia np. jarmark świąteczny, testowanie whiskey itp. Można też wynająć kopalnię i urządzić w niej ślub bądź chrzciny 🙂 Przez lata kopalnia służyła również jako plan filmowy m.in. dla filmu „Ronja, córka zbójnika” na podstawie książki Astrid Lindgren. W jaskini pozostały do tej pory niektóre dekoracje wykonane na potrzeby filmu.

Kopalnia jest również miejscem zimowania nietoperzy. W Szwecji występuje 19 gatunków nietoperzy z 1100 istniejących na świecie, a w Tykarpsgrottan można spotkać 8 z nich. Są to malutkie nietoperze żywiące się owadami i zapadające w sen zimowy na kilka miesięcy w roku. Jest to czas kiedy jaskinia jest niedostępna dla turystów, aby nie przerywać snu tych dziwnych latających stworzeń.

Adaś w drodze do jaskini cały czas mówił, że będzie szukał w niej dinozaurów albo niedźwiedzi. Na szczęście nie spotkaliśmy ani jednych, ani drugich 🙂 Nasz odważny maluch, trochę jednak się bał ciemności w jaskini. Cała jaskinia jest oświetlona, ale na czas zwiedzania dostajemy tylko małe lampy, a główne oświetlenie jest wyłączone. Gabrysia większość trasy była na czele grupy i zagadywała przewodniczkę swoimi opowieściami 🙂

Zwiedzanie trwa ok pół godziny, grupy mogą być max 30 osobowe, ale nas na szczęście było tylko 14. W jaskini panuje cały rok temperatura 8°C, więc warto się grubo ubrać. Zwiedzanie w wysokim sezonie zaczyna się co 45 min, więc dobrze jest sprawdzić wcześniej grafik. Na miejscu jest sklepik i kawiarnia oraz pole campingowe.

Wycieczkę do Tykarpsgrottan można połączyć z wizytą w pobliskim zamku Hovdala albo Hembygsparken w Hässleholm. My mamy w planie dłuższy spacer po terenach rekreacyjnych Hovdala i nad pobliskim jeziorem Finja, a więc stay tuned!

Forests, meadows, lakes … sounds great, doesn’t it, but what to do with children when the weather is bad? And all museums and playrooms are closed? Let’s go to a cave or a mine! The nearest cave from Malmö, or rather an old calcium mine, is Tykarpsgrottan, which lies in the Hässleholm area, just over an hour driving from Malmö.

The cave is 12 m deep and has an area of ​​20,000 m² . Lime was mined there from the mid-18th century until the year 1888. Currently, it is open to the public (but only with a guide) and various events take place there, such as the Christmas market, whiskey tasting, etc. You can also rent the mine and organize a wedding or christening party: ) For years, the mine also served as a film set, including the movie „Ronja, the Robber’s daughter” based on the book by Astrid Lindgren. Some decorations made for the film have still remained in the cave.

The mine is also a sleeping chamber for bats. In Sweden there are 19 species of bats out of 1100 existing in the world, and in Tykarpsgrottan you can find 8 of them. They are tiny bats eating insects and falling into winter sleep for several months a year. During this time, the cave is closed to tourists in order not to interrupt the sleep of these strange flying creatures.

On the way to the cave, Adam was explaining that he will look for dinosaurs and for bears inside of it. Fortunately, we didn’t meet any of them 🙂 Our brave boy was actually slightly afraid of the darkness in the cave. The whole cave is illuminated, but for the time of sightseeing we only get small lamps and the main lighting is off. Most of the route Gabriela was leading the group and talked to the guide 🙂

The tour lasts about half an hour, groups can be max 30 people, but luckily it was only 14 of us. The cave has a temperature of 8°C all year round, so it’s important to take some extra clothes . Visiting in the high season starts every 45 min, so it’s good to check the schedule in advance. By the entrance we can find a shop and café, as well as a camping site.

A trip to Tykarpsgrottan can be combined with a visit to the nearby Hovdala Castle or Hembygsparken in Hässleholm. We are planning a longer walk around the Hovdala recreation areas and the nearby Finja Lake, so stay tuned!
